Walter Arway Obituary

Walter V. Arway of North Brunswick passed away at his home on January 9th 2022 at the age of 96. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, he resided in North Brunswick for the last 64 years with his wife Lena, where they raised 3 children Walter, Joanne and Jeffrey.

A graduate of Perth Amboy schools, he attended Rutgers University and graduated from the Newark College of Engineering, Building Construction division.

Early in his career, Walter was employed for over 10 years by Continental Copper & Steel Industries for sheetmetal layout and design prior to forming a partnership A&M Storefronts, where he restored and remodeled numerous downtown storefronts in New Brunswick, Highland Park and Plainfield. He later opened his own business, the Arway Construction Company, which he ran for many years until his retirement.

Walter was a WW II Army veteran and proudly served in Central Europe with the 100th Infantry Division 398 Regiment. He was a long-time member of the American Legion Post 0459 in North Brunswick for the last 59 years and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, as well as a member of the 100th Infantry Division Association. Walter was also a member of the North Brunswick Senior Citizens, and a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Church.

Walter is predeceased by his father John and mother Josephine May, also his 2 brothers and 3 sisters, and is survived by his loving wife Lena Romano of 70 years; his son Walter and wife Laura, his son Jeffrey and wife Denise, and his daughter Joanne; as well as his 3 grandchildren Brendan and wife Rachel, Kevin and wife Hillary, and Elizabeth and husband Dr. Peter Hart; and by 1 great granddaughter, and 2 step-grandchildren Roger Show and wife Kasey, and Rose Show Bartelli and husband Brandon. Also surviving are his two sister-in-laws Angelina Romano and Mary Romano.

Viewing will be at the Bronson and Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown, NJ on Thursday January 13th at 9:00 - 10:30 am. The mass service to follow at St. Mary of Mt. Virgin in New Brunswick at 11:00 am, and the interment at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Jamesburg at 12:30 pm.

Dad will be greatly missed by his family for his patience, goodness and selflessness and will be in our hearts forever.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
