Michael T. Burak of East Brunswick, NJ passed away peacefully at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital on November 5, 2023 after a long fought battle with illness over four months. He was 72 years old.
Born in Newark, NJ, Mike grew up in Elizabeth and Roselle Park. He later moved to Carteret with his wife to raise his family. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from the Elizabeth Postal Service in 2008. Mike was a member of the Carteret Elks and a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Carteret, NJ. He enjoyed going to the track to bet the horses, gambling at any casino, crabbing down the shore in the summer, being Lithuanian, coaching softball, Star Wars, Jaws, The Godfather, but most of all, spending time with the loves of his life – his four granddaughters.
Predeceased by his parents John and Mary Burak, Mike is survived by his wife Marie; daughters and sons-in-law Melissa and Christopher Young and Megan and Robert Magalski; granddaughters Caitlin and Maggie Young, Melanie and Meadow Magalski; sister and brother-in-law Mary Ann and Richard Soto; goddaughter Renee Soto and her husband David Krasne; aunt Maureen Kwadecius; mother-in-law Loretta Dacchille; and many beloved cousins and friends.
His favorite place to charitably give was the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and in lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation in his memory.
