Marilyn McGovern (nee: Jackson) passed away August 29th. She had been a resident of East Brunswick since 1986. Marilyn grew up in Wyckoff, NJ. A National Merit Scholar in high school, she went on to become a 1968 graduate with honors of Iowa Wesleyan College where she studied Chemistry and Biology. She worked for Schering-Plough at their Bloomfield site preparing applications to be submitted to the FDA for new pharmaceutical products. After starting a family, she became an adjunct Chemistry Professor at Bloomfield College. Later, she worked was a substitute teacher with East Brunswick Public Schools. She then she became a full time high school science teacher at Long Branch High School from 1990-1993, then at Spotswood High School until she retired from teaching in 1999. Marilyn was a long-time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in East Brunswick where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed listening to and performing music, was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She is predeceased by her parents Ainlay and Laura Jackson, her husband Joseph, and her sister Linda Kolenut. She is survived by her children, Kathleen McGovern of Edison, NJ, Daniel McGovern of Quakertown, PA, and Christine McGovern of Columbia, SC. Family and friends will be received Wednesday 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Bronson & Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown, NJ. The funeral service will be celebrated Thursday 10:30am at the funeral home followed by interment at Hollywood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).
