William “Bill” C. Purdue, 71 of Milltown, NJ passed away suddenly on August 8, 2018. Bill was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and will forever be remembered as one of the great ones. He is predeceased by his parents William H. and Helen F. Purdue formerly of Teaneck, NJ where Bill grew up. Bill was a graduate of Northeastern University, where he earned his degree in engineering. It was there that he met his wife Joy (Richardson). They were married in March of 1971 shortly before he was shipped off to Germany during the Vietnam War. He served as an MP in the United States Army. They moved to Milltown in 1976, where they raised their two children, Will and Buffy. Bill was a beacon of light to all he encountered; a kind, loving, and generous individual who brought a smile to your face. Being an only child himself, it brought him great joy to devote himself to his family and friends. He enjoyed spending his free time golfing and fishing and he was an avid trivia buff. His greatest times were spent enjoying his two grandsons whom he treasured more than anything. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Joy; his son Will Purdue and his wife Denise of Kendall Park; daughter Buffy McGinnis and her husband Peter of Milltown, and two grandsons Peter J. McGinnis, III, and Connor William McGinnis. He will be greatly missed. Family and friends will be received Saturday 2-6pm at the Bronson & Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown. Final disposition will be private. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests memorial donations are made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 17005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
