Salvatore Michael Argila, P.E. (Sam)(Sal)- passed away peacefully on Friday morning, May 4th, 2018 at the age of 95 years.
Born on June 1st, 1922, in Staten Island, NY, Sal grew up and fell in love with the girl next door, Kathryn (Perry) Argila and they wed in 1942. He was predeceased by his loving sister Josephine (Bubby) and brothers-in-law Rick Percoco and Robert Perry. He is survived by his long-time buddy and brother-in-law Roy(Uncle Don) Perry.
Sal proudly served as a radio operator and sergeant in the United States Air Force during WWII. He profoundly loved his country and was honored to be a veteran. Sal often told his grandchildren how he made a full circle around the world during his time in the service before making it home to Grandma (Kay).
Sal attended Manhattan College and graduated with an electrical engineering degree. He became a Professional Engineer and later founded his own company, Franklin Engineering Co. He strongly believed in education and in earning success, which led him to his own pursuit of the American Dream.
Sal was predeceased by his loving wife Kathryn of 60 years. Together, they maintained a strong philosophy that "family always comes first". Their love is and always will be the heart of the Argila and extended families.
Sal is survived by his four children; Dr.Charles and wife Ann Argila, Dianne Argila, Robert Argila, and Sallyann Jeffrey's and husband Rick.
13 Grandchildren; Charles Jr. and wife Sabrina, Kelly, Kacey, Robby and husband Vinnie, Andrea and husband Joe, Amy and husband Greg, Richard and wife Danielle, Angela and husband Chris, Noelle and husband Matt, Alexandra, Cara, Max and Mason. Sal also has 10 great- grandchildren and is survived by his longtime loving campanion, Grace.
"Grandpa loved each of us as individuals and supported us based on our own dreams. His life lessons have helped shaped our character and will be something we all cherish as we grow our own families."
Dad, Grandpa, dear friend - we already miss you terribly but find happiness in knowing you lived your life exactly how you wanted to; with purpose, integrity and as a lifelong learner. What other 95 year old has jumped on Facebook just to stay hip and in-the-loop?! We will never forget your veteran hat, your suspenders, pocket protectors and crossworld puzzles. We will love you forever.
The viewing will be held Tuesday, May 8th from 4pm to 8pm at Bronson & Guthlein Funeral Home at 152 North Main Street, Milltown, N.J. 08850. The funeral will be on Wednesday, May 9th at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milltown at 10am.
