Margaret passed away peacefully on July 13, in Old Bridge NJ.She was born in 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Astoria, Queens. Margaret was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, and served as a Eucharist minister for many years.
She was employed by Exxon for 40 years, and retired in 1987. Margaret loved to travel, dance and tell one (or a few) of her many jokes - and she told then over and over again. Although she didn’t have a speck of Irish in her, she often sang and told jokes in her well-practiced Irish brogue. She traveled around the world – literally, and was amazed by the world and all she learned in her travels. The destination that meant the most to her was visiting Croatia, where her parents were born and where many relatives still live. But most of all, she loved spending time with her large extended family and the many dear friends that meant so much to her. Birthdays, weddings and all happy occasions were celebrated – but in difficult times she was always there to lend a helping hand. She spent many hours doing volunteer work and supported many worthy charities.
Margaret is pre-deceased by her parents, Gus and Ante Zgombic, and her brother Dinko. She is survived by her sister Mary and brother-in-law Ed, her nieces Mary Lynn and Laura, great niece Gabrielle and great nephew Alexander.
She will be remembered for her generosity to her immediate family, extended family and friends, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Covenant House in New York or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
