Lester “Chip” Clark, “The Mayor of Richter Avenue” passed away peacefully at his home Monday, July 23, 2018. Chip was born on Clay Street in Milltown, NJ to Lester and Margaret Buckley Clark on 5/19/1933. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War where he was stationed in Hawaii, California, and the Philippines. He returned home from his service to marry the love of his life Mary Ellen Deegan on 9/24/1955. As a lifelong Milltown resident, he was a member of the Milltown FD and Exempt Association, American Legion Post 25, Clark Moetz VFW, Milltown Senior Citizens, and an usher at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Although a man of few words, Chip was known for his quick wit and wisdom which will be carried by those fortunate enough to experience his guidance and love. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen, daughters Judi (Tim) O’Connor and Mary Kim Clark, grandchildren Kaitlin (Ian) Gomes, Sean (Nicole) O’Connor, and Kyle O’Connor, his great-grandchildren Declan and Saoirse Gomes, his angelic grandchildren Jillian and Ryan O’Connor, and his faithful companion Uh-Oh, Loving sisters Elaine Clark VanOrden and Peggy Clark Bono, Chip is Pre Deceased by Brothers Michael and Mark, and Sisters Eve and Jane, His Sister Cousin Louis Clark Carasso is also Pre Deceased. We will miss his daily morning notes to Mary Ellen, his love the NY Giants and Yankees, his patience, kindness, and love of salt. Chip’s family will welcome friends Thursday 4-8pm at the Bronson and Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday 10:30am at OLOL Church followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you commit a random act of kindness or make a donation to a veteran’s organization of your choice.
